Jim Friend

Jim joined Changing Our World as a managing director in 2018 where he is responsible for overseeing the firm’s faith-based division. Over the past 30 years, Jim has focused his career on service to Catholic organizations through philanthropy and ministry. He began his career in the 1990s in parish ministry as a Youth Minister, Director of Religious Education, and finally, a Parish Administrator. In 2002, Jim moved into fundraising first as a consultant and then serving in the Diocese of Allentown (2006) and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (2014).

A few highlights of Jim’s philanthropic experience include:

  • 2002-04: Managed an ICSC award-winning two-year diocesan Stewardship Initiative for the Diocese of Camden and numerous parish capital campaigns.
  • 2006 – 2014: Served as Secretary of Stewardship and Development in the Diocese of Allentown increasing the Bishop’s Annual Appeal from $2.6 million to $4.9 million. He also increased the tax credits raised for Catholic school scholarships to $3.2 Million annually; and founded the Catholic Foundation of Eastern Pennsylvania which manages over $30 Million in assets today.
  • 2014-2018: Served as the first Chief Development Officer for the Faith in the Future Foundation, providing fundraising oversight and direction for the 17 archdiocesan high schools and four schools of special education in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
  • Since 2019, Jim has served a variety of Catholic nonprofit institutions including Chestnut Hill College by raising over $9 million for endowment during the pandemic lockdown, the Diocese of Manchester providing parish stewardship programming to increase offertory and volunteers, and guiding the Diocese to launch the first diocesan appeal, the New Hampshire Catholic Appeal in 2022, Saint Joseph’s College to increase their Annual Appeal from $450,000 to $800,000 in a single year and the Saint John Vianney Center where he serves as campaign counsel to create a new Advancement program for the 75-year old nonprofit.

Jim currently hosts Changing Our World’s Advancing Our Church Podcast, a podcast about Catholic Stewardship, Leadership, and Advancement. He graduated with a B.A. from West Chester University and earned a Master’s Degree in English and Publishing from Rosemont College.  Jim is currently a Candidate for the Permanent Diaconate in the Diocese of Allentown where he is working on a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Ministry. He serves on the Development Committee for the National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry and is Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for St. Ann School in Emmaus, PA. Jim and his wife Kristin have three young adult children and they live in Eastern Pennsylvania.
