Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Corporate Grantmaking

In late 2021, Changing Our World conducted a study with more than 50 CSR and corporate giving practitioners to better understand the strategy, measurement and goals behind their efforts to integrate DEI into their grantmaking practices.

Driven by the reckoning with racial inequities that the crises of the past few years have spurred, many corporate philanthropy professionals have paused to take a closer look at their grantmaking processes and giving strategy. CSR leaders recognize the need to better integrate DEI into their corporate grantmaking, but best practices, standards and examples of what companies are actually doing are lacking.

Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Corporate Grantmaking report provides a starting place for corporate giving practitioners to get a sense of the landscape – what their peer companies are doing, and what best practices are emerging.

Key findings include:

  • Nearly 75% of companies have committed to intentionally address DEI in their grantmaking, most often through an “explicit emphasis on advancing DEI within other funding areas,” such as within education, health, etc.
  • Within the past year, about 30% of companies have implemented new practices to address DEI within their grantmaking teams and processes.
  • 30% of companies have set a measurable goal to grow their DEI-aligned giving.

This report was produced in partnership with YourCause from Blackbaud and the Association of Corporate Giving Professionals.
